My Favorite Summer Must Haves

Summer is finally here! I don’t know about you but I felt like this was the never ending winter in the North East. We received snow until March with the thought of summer seeming so distant! Well, it’s here which means it’s time to get yourself into summer mode and make the most of the new season. Now is the perfect time to refresh your wardrobe by adding some staple pieces to keep you in style all summer long. It’s also time to look at your daily habits to ensure your routine reflects the season. Here’s a few of my favorite summer products and tips I swear by.

Refresh your Wardrobe: Carve out time to look through your clothes from last year. Get rid of or donate anything that doesn’t make you happy or is looking worn out. Note what items you toss and replace them with fun new pieces! My first staple piece I suggest would be a new pair of cute jean shorts. Whatever style you prefer (I personally like a high-waisted cut) a good pair of shorts are a go to when putting a summer outfit together. Next, consider adding a few sun dresses and rompers that can be easily dressed up or worn casually from one of my favorite online stores The Label Room. My favorite summer items to shop for are new sandals. I normally buy one causal pair I can wear almost everywhere and a pair that can be worn for dressier occasions. Lastly, how can we forget a new pair of sunnies! I’m loving these adorable sunglasses from anthropologie.

Makeover your Makeup: Summer’s warm humidity can be disastrous for some. This environment leads to frizzy hair, oily skin and runny makeup. To avoid this, start by investing in a translucent powder and setting spray. I recommend Trish McEvoy’s translucent powder and Urban Decay’s setting spray to hold your makeup in place and combat that oily look. Next, one of my favorite products is Trish McEvoy’s lash curling mascara. This amazing formula does not smear and easily comes off with warm water in tube like strips. Say goodbye to raccoon eyes! To tame the frizz, try adding Moroccan Oil to your hair to keep a smooth and sleek look.

SPF is your BFF: After working in the skincare industry for a few years, I really started to value the power of taking care of your skin. Going in the sun without protection reduces your skin’s elasticity causing it to age prematurely. I don’t know about you, but I want to prevent wrinkling as much as possible! You can put all the night cream on in the world; however, if you are not taking care of your skin during the day, the benefits will not be as effective. Try investing in a primer or moisturizer with at least 30 SPF and incorporate it into your routine daily. Also, sunscreen for your body is not just for the beach! Apply it any time you will be out in the sun for long periods of time like a summer concert or a run (something I really had to get used to!) My favorite brand is Supergoop offering a wide range of sunscreen products.
